The Uva Wellassa University was established in the year 2005. The university is situated in the city of Badulla which is the capital of the province named Uva. The university is one of a kind in Sri Lanka as it proffers academic education in the field entrepreneurship. Moreover, it also imparts education in other fields of study.
The Uva Wellassa University is the 14th national university which is quite different from other Sri Lankan universities, as it is based on the development of professional skills and broad general education for all students, while providing the conceptual and methodological background and the practical work to obtain practical solutions for value addition to the national resources base of Sri Lanka.

Programs and Courses

Uva Wellassa University currently offers 11 undergraduate degree programs and more than twelve short-term courses. along with two certificate courses in General Management and Human Resource Management. Faculty of Management comprises of the following departments Entrepreneurship and Management Studies and Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management.
Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture comprises of the following departments Animal Science, Export Agriculture, Palm & Latex Technology and Value Addition and Tea Technology and Value Addition.
Faculty of Science and Technology comprises of the following departments Science & Technology, Computer Science & Technology, Industrial Information Technology and Mineral Resources & Technology.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

Currently; The total number of enrollment is UWU is about 1500 out of 20,000 applicants.
University Grants Commission usually provides the eligibility criteria of having minimum Z score in the GCE A/Level examinations. Students meeting this requirement can apply for undergraduate courses. Moreover, for the admission in the postgraduate programs one must possess a bachelor’s degree. Students coming from abroad should have education equivalent to Z score in GCE.
All applicants for the admission to UWU have to qualify Aptitude Test conducted throughout the country by the Commissioner General of Exams (CGE). An applicant is to just qualify the test. The test score is not weighted to the calculation in merit list. The test is of general nature and evaluates the rank of required aptitude skills in the prospect student.
There are two tests:

  • Test of Common General Knowledge
  • Test for the evaluation of the suitability of the candidate for the particular degree program.
