The Tata Institute of Social Sciences came into being in 1936 in the city of Mumbai which is the capital of Indian state Maharashtra. The main emphasis of the university is on the field of social sciences. The institute aims to provide excellent quality education and academic learning in order to contribute in changing and development of society for good.

Programs:

The university comprises of the following schools: School of Education, Management and Labor Studies,Rural Development,Social Work,Health Systems Studies, Habitat Studies, Law, Rights and Constitutional Governance,Vocational Education, Development Studies and Media and Cultural Studies. TISS offers a single undergraduate program, a B.A. (Hons.) in Social Work, with Specialization in Rural Development. Most of the programs offered by TISS are postgraduate (PG) programs. TISS offers programs in Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Health, Master of Hospital Administration, and about ten other M.A. programs. It also offers two M.A./M.Sc. programs, as well as M.Phil and Ph.D. programs. TISS also offers a range of short term programs, awarding diplomas, PG diplomas and certificates.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

Candidate opting to get admission in the undergraduate program must submit the applicant form and then have to pass the entrance test. If the test is passed than the administration will call the applicant for an interview. Same is the case with the postgraduate applicants. However, the applicant should have cleared the intermediate education to be eligible for undergraduate courses and bachelors degree to be eligible for postgraduate courses. Apart from this, application forms are available on the website for short-term programs and candidates are contacted for interviews after that. University conducts entrance exams for post graduate programs often in second week of December.University also conducts entrance exams in may of every year.
