Bengal Engineering and Science University

Bengal Engineering and Science University established in the year 1856 is one of the prestigious engineering universities of India. Apart from this, it is also crowned as the 2nd oldest engineering institution in the country. With the motto of “Arise, Awake, Obtaining worthy (teachers), Know (the truth)” BESU has entered into collaboration with international institutions namely University of Windsor in Canada, Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland, and the University of Pennsylvania, USA. The university has one of the oldest and the largest technical library in the South-east Asian region. A local magazine named “India Today” placed the BESU at the 10th spot amongst all engineering institutes of India in 2005.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

The duration of all regular Under Graduate course of study is 8 semesters(4 years) except Architecture which takes 10 Semesters(5 years). Candidates can only apply after successfully passing the secondary or higher education. Since the university offers wide range of subjects so the eligibility criteria for every field would be different. Some foreign students are also admitted with nominations from central government agencies. Admission in Post Graduate program is given on the basis of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE) qualification and as well as BESU’s own test and interview. The criteria for the admission in Master of Science program is B. Sc. (H) = 50%, H.S.= 20%, Madhyamik= 10% and Interview= 20%, academic record is calculated through percentage of the marks not the percentile of the marks.
