University of Jammu

The University of Jammu was established in the year 1969 in the city of Jammu which is in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The university vows to facilitate the masses and provide sufficient academic learning and education for the people of the region. The university has many affiliated colleges in the region. National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India has accredited the university ‘A’ grade and the university is also the first Indian university to be ISO 9001:2000 certified. Apart from this, the university also offers distance education program.

Programs and Courses

The university mainly offers postgraduate and doctoral programs but it also offers undergraduate programs in some of the fields. Following are the faculties along with their departments. Faculty of Life Sciences has School of Biotechnology, Department of Botany, Department of Environmental Science and Department of Zoology. Faculty of Arts/Oriental Languages has Department of Buddhist Studies, Department of Dogri, Department of English, Department of Hindi, Department of Punjabi, Department of Sanskrit and Department of Urdu. Faculty of Sciences has Department of Chemistry, Department of Geology, Department of Geography, Department of Home Science, Department of Physics & Electronics and Department of Remote Sensing & GIS. Faculty of Education has Department of Education, Department of Physical Education. Faculty of Business Studies has The Business School, School of Hospitality & Tourism Management and Department of Commerce. Faculty of Mathematical Science has Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics and Department of Computer Science & IT. Faculty of Law has Department of Law and The Law School. Faculty of Social Science has Department of Economics, Department of History, Department of Political Science, Department of Library and Information Science, Department of Psychology, Department for Strategic and Regional Studies, Department of Sociology and Department of Life Long Learning. Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Music and Fine Arts are also offered.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

The university offers postgraduate courses in majority and few undergraduate courses. However, in order to be eligible for admissions in the undergraduate course, the applicant should complete the intermediate education successfully and for the admissions in the postgraduate programs, one should have a bachelor’s degree. Both programs require the individual to pass the written objective Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET). For foreign students Minimum GMAT score = 650 Minimum GRE score = 320 Minimum SAT score = 2000 is required.
