The university is located in the city of Samsun which is located near black sea. The university was established in 1975 and is thought to be one of the largest universities of turkey.

University has five institutes in their campus and these institutes are: Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Education Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences, Institute of Fine Arts and Institute of Science.
