Question: 8

Write the equation for y = 3 ( x 2 ) 2 shifted 4 units up and 5 units to the left.
  • y = 3 ( x + 3 ) 2 + 4
  • y = 3 ( x 7 ) 2 + 4
  • y = 7 ( x 2 ) 2 5
  • y = 3 ( x + 2 ) 2 5
  • y = 4 ( x 7 ) 2

  Show/Hide Explanation

Correct Answer: A

Right now, the vertex for this point is (2,0), so to shift it up 4 and left 5 would place it at (−3,4).

This gives us an equation of y = 3 ( x + 3 ) 2 + 4

We could also get this by adding 5 inside the parentheses for the left 5 shift, and adding 4 on the outside for the up 4 shift.
