The University of Ruhuna was established in the year 1978. The university houses an enormous library with around 140000 books. The university is rapidly developing and aiming to facilitate the academic needs of the people in the region and of the Country.

Programs and Courses

Faculty of Agriculture has Department of Agricultural Biology, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Food Science & Technology, Crop Science and Soil Science. Faculty of Engineering has Department of Civil and Environment Engineering, Electrical and Information Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Interdisciplinary Studies. Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology has Department of Oceanography and Marine Geology, of Limnology and Fisheries & Aquaculture. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has Department of Business Administration, Economics, Geography,History, Pali & Buddhist Studies, Sinhala and Department Sociology. Faculty of Management and Finance has Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance and Marketing. Faculty of Medicine has Department of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology,Parasitology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Department of Pathology, Medicine, Pediatrics, Clinical, Surgery, Psychiatry, Gynecology & Obstetrics,Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine. Faculty of Science has Department of Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Department Zoology.

University of Ruhuna Admissions

An admission test for the selection of applicants is held each year. The course duration of the program is 4 academic years.

General Requirements

Minimum Z score is required in the GCE A/level examinations in order to be eligible for the admissions in the undergraduate courses. Apart from this, a bachelor’s degree is necessary for postgraduate programs. Overseas applicants must have a minimum of score of 1600 in SAT.
