Ocean University of Sri Lanka was established in 1999. It is recognized as a degree awarding institute by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka. It offers a wide range of distance learning programs for domestic as well as foreign students. A large number of professional or employes of public and private organizations take admission as part time students. The enhancement provided by the university through its valuable programs certainly bring changes in the professional status of the students.

The University is offering four degree courses in the fields of Marine Science and Nautical Engineering. It also offers Diploma and Certificate courses. Degree Programs: B.Sc. in Fisheries and Marine Science (General), B.Sc. in Fisheries and Marine Science (Special), B.Sc. in Marine Engineering and B.Sc. in Naval Architecture. Diploma Courses: Fishing Vessels Deck Officers, Marine Engineering Technology, Fish Port Harvest Technology, Electronics in Navigation, Fiberglass Technology and Boat Building, Basic Coastal Hydrographic Surveying, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management and Computer Science.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

Following is the University admission criteria
For Fisheries and Marine Sciences: The candidates must possess three passes in relevant fields at G.C.E, A/L or relevant NVQ qualifications at level or above or Pass in G.C.E. O/L in six subjects with credit passes in any three of the subjects, Science, ICT, Mathematics, First Language and English Language, together with relevant and recognized technical/vocational qualifications and two years of relevant experience or Graduation in a relevant professional body or One-year certificate course in Agriculture from the Dept. of Agriculture with six years of experience in a relevant field or Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the University. For Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture: The candidates must possess three passes in relevant fields at G.C.E, A/L or relevant NVQ qualifications at level or above or Pass in G.C.E. O/L in six subjects with credit passes in any three of the subjects, Science, ICT, Mathematics, First Language and English Language, together with relevant and recognized technical/vocational qualifications and two years of relevant experience or Graduation in a relevant professional body or Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the University.
